Global Vision, Future Mission and Unchained Affection
The School of International Education (SIE) is one of Jiangnan University’s subordinate colleges. Its main duties include the education and supervision of international students, the provision of Mandarin Chinese language learning for foreigners, and the administration of exchange programs with foreign universities. In December of 2007, the School of International Education partnered with Lambton College (known as North American College as of 2011).
Since 1964 Jiangnan University has accepted international students from more than 100 countries. SIE acts on the principles of innovating, offering rigorous scholarship opportunities, and cultivating student abilities. The school has accumulated years of experience in recruiting international students while enlarging its overall scope of reaching an international population. All programs offered at Jiangnan University accept international students, where students can pursue Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees. In addition, General and Advanced scholars interested in studying Mandarin Chinese and other areas of study are accepted. A select group of majors are also offered in English. Currently, there are nearly 1000 international students studying on campus. They are largely dispersed among the School of Food Science and Technology, School of Biotechnology, School of Textile and Clothing, School of Internet of Things, School of Environment and Civil Engineering, School of Business, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Design, School of Pharmacy, School of Humanities, School of Foreign Languages, School of Digital Media, and School of International Education.
Over JNU’s many years of perfecting its Mandarin Chinese language program, we have acquired a teaching staff of more than twenty full-time and part-time teachers. We offer beginner, junior, intermediate, and advanced courses for Mandarin Chinese language learning. We also offer various short-visit camps according to different requirements.
The ultimate goal of SIE is to help transform Jiangnan University into a high-level university through the cooperation with foreign universities and the recruitment of excellent teaching staff, resources, concepts and methods. Our pursuit of this goal permits us to cultivate talent on an international scale, with a multi-cultural foundation and comprehensive qualities. Jiangnan University has not only cooperated with Canada to establish JNU-Lambton College, but has also continuously developed cooperation with other famous universities in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Netherlands, Ireland, Australia, Japan, and Korea. In the near future, we will offer Bioscience, Food Science, Art Design, Computer Science and Practice, Software Engineering, Education, and Linguistics through an exchange program that will transfer teaching materials, recruit teachers, and offer mutual-recognition of credits. Jiangnan University hopes to adapt to either the 1+3, 2+2, 3+1 or the 3+1+1, 1+1 method in order to cultivate undergraduate and graduate programs, so that students can have an excellent education both at home and abroad. Meanwhile, students who dream to study abroad can have an economic, convenient, and reliable way of doing so. The School of International Education is responsible for exploring, organizing, and implementing these programs
SIE also assumes responsibility for providing international students with living accommodations. In the International Student Dormitory, more than six hundred rooms, each with a complete set of furniture, telephone, internet, television, and air-conditioner, are available for incoming students. The dormitory offers not only comfortable accommodations but also entertainment and a close community for both studying and living.
The School of International Education provides a window for international exchange at Jiangnan University—it is an envoy of friendly communication, an ideal place to cultivate excellent Chinese and International abilities and relationships.
