In March of the early spring, everything comes back to life. At the invitation of Wuxi High-tech District (Xinwu District) People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the School of International Education has organized international students to visit Dafangqiao Village, Hongshan, Xinwu District, a beautiful leisure village of national level. The students have got firsthand experience about the achievements of China’s new rural construction and social-economic development by appreciating pear blossoms over 100 mu of area in the beautiful countryside.
On the day of the activity, the international students appreciated national intangible culture heritage——some set pieces in the Ode to Pear Blossom , the Mountain of Cuckoo (both Beijing opera), the Jade Dragonfly, and the Song of Red Flower (both Wuxi opera). Then, local staff introduced the life and work of foreigners in the High-tech District. The introduction was followed by a visit to Dafangqiao Village. While the international students were roaming on the clean country lane, they saw residential buildings with white walls and grey tiles, well-organized courtyards, fields of vibrant life, rippling pools of bluish waves, and a harmonious and peaceful life. Everything in sight demonstrated an ecological and livable countryside. Dafangqiao village had changed a deserted pear garden into a new look through developing ecological agriculture that combines environment, culture and agricultural tourism based on the Hongxin Lixiang Garden. The international students were intoxicated with the blossoming pear garden and amazed at the intelligent agricultural platform constructed with IoT technology. They stopped to take photos and expressed their surprise time and time again, such as “What a beautiful countryside! Totally different from my imagination!”
The “Perceiving China” event enables the international students to go beyond campus and witness the on-going changes around all corners of China.
