On the afternoon of October 26, twenty international students from Jiangnan University came to Zhong Reading Yard at Rongxiang Lane for the “Experience China” cultural exchange activity of exploring the unique charm of grass weaving as intangible cultural heritage. Wu Xiaoqun, the inheritor of intangible cultural heritage techniques for Wuxi grass weaving was invited as guest lecturer to teach the students from Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen and so on.
With a pair of scissors and some bundles of grass ropes, strands of grass were interlaced and intertwined around the main body frame using techniques such as folding, pulling, cutting or pressing. Thus, grass-woven handcraft works of realistic designs came to the world. The students brought their own works to take photos together with Ms. Wu. Their joy filled the air.
